In order to better understand the relative merits of moving from NoFollow to DoFollow, I have begun a test on this site.

Basically I am using two new (for me) plugins.

• Lucia’sLinkLove -and-
• Nofollow Reciprocity

The basic notion is that Lucia’s LinkLove allows for an automatic reset of the default NoFollow for comments to DoFollow, after pre-determined number (determined by me) of approved comments have been added by a given user to this site. The NoFollow Reciprocity module sets and/all comments to NoFollow if the receiveing site has their site set to NoFollow.

Hopefully this test will demonstrate an uptick in this site’s ratings and traffic without a significant additional burden in SPAM.  I’ll post the results of my test, as they become obvious.  If you have ideas of other plugins that I should add to this mix, please let me know.

TreeMagic-Banyan

We are pleased to announce that this site is now TreeMagic-Banyan enabled.

In order to invoke TreeMagic-Banyan simply select a word or phrase and double-click. A small popup will appear. Select the “portal” option and a secondary window will open highlighting you query results. The Portal popup is a fully operational Banyan portal. You may conduct additional queries and information investigations from within the new page.

We will be adding additional information resources to our portal site in the coming weeks.

We are a small group of keen WordPress users who are happy and proud to offer something back to the user community.

We spent a long time exploring the merits of java, hoping its scalability and efficient code protocols would lead us into developing a specialized CMS. What we did not realize was that java makes high demands on server side processing and memory. To run an interactive, dynamic site with high traffic requires a dedicated server with heaps of processing power and even more memory. It’s an expensive overhead. Putting all that back end power into a php platform would provide suerb results also and it did not seem to make sense to pursue the java route without taking a closer look at the php alternatives again.

A close favorite is Drupal. No-one can argue against the professionalism and quality control that Drupal has built into their CMS, but it does favor the experienced web master and programmer to get the best out of the system. That was not an issue for us personally, but we wanted to focus on a technology that was easy to use for our users and clients and that provided an out of the box solution for web publication.

WordPress fulfills that criteria and a lot more besides. Ease of use comes as standard, but when you look under the hood, one can see a wealth of code features that make it stand apart from the rest. Extensibility, connectivity and reliability are hallmarks that readily come to mind with WordPress. And so we made WordPress our codebase of choice to develop, expand and experiment with exciting new features. You will hear more about these as time goes on and we are very happy to share some of the goodies back with the WordPress community.
