5. Using the image manager in posts.
We said earlier that image size and dimensions were important for good presentation, so let’s find out the exact requirements and put the tool to work.
The ‘leading story’ image is not too critical, and a dimension of 269px by 178px gives a good proportion in the layout.
The features stories need to be 255×88 pixels while the various category thumbnails are 51×51 pixels each. You will note that 255×88 is a bit ‘letterbox’ like, so we need to crop the images thoughtfully to make these look good on the page.
Image manager has a good flash demo to show you the basics of using the tool. See here http://www.soderlind.no/demo/imagemanager.php Take a look at this first before following this walkthrough
As you will see from the demo, ImageManager can perform all the image tasks with ease, so let’s get going on a real post!
6. Login to admin and go to write post.
You can write your post as usual, include any images that are required and input them in the usual way, or if you prefer, use the new Image manager plugin. If you decide to use image manager plugin exclusively for all image work, It’s best to create sub-directories for all your non-front page images, just to keep things separate and organized!
Remember, to select one of the front page post categories if you want this post to be a front spotlight! In this example, let’s checkbox the ‘Leading story’ category. It.s good practice to ’save and continue editing’ at this point.

Great article on a great theme. I loved the Image Manager plugin which I guess has been somewhat superseded now we have the new Media Gallery (although still no way to file images neatly into folders)
If all that image resizing and custom field tagging is spoiling your enjoyment of MIMBO then you should check out the VIVA THUMBS plugin from Mediatricks. It takes the first image you upload (using WP Add Media - not Image Manager) and automatically thumbnails it on the fly to any size your theme needs.
It can also display a defautl category linked image if there is no image uploaded with a post.
The demo site has a fully working version you can login and test: http://www.mediatricks.biz/demo
Viva Thumbs makes Mimbo, Revolution, Unstandard and all the new ‘picture perfect’ themes a snap to administer.
